If you want to sit with a wise one
whose words will lead you to long for the beloved,
don’t look to me – I am no such person
and will soon be gone from your midst.
If you want to sit with one who can guide you
in your affairs with insight received from the Unseen
who will tell you to choose this one or that one, to take
this way or that
don’t look to me – I am no such person
and received no such intimations.
If you want to sit with one and hear stories
of the masters and their deeds from one who
was intimate
don’t look to me – I am no such person
and I have no such tales to tell.
But if you are looking for someone to sit by you
and with fidelity join you in the silent struggle
to remember the Friend, to offer your attention to
the repetition of His Name
Then look to me, who, one
way or the other, will soon be gone.
It is said that Jesus taught, “To
Enter the kingdom of heaven you
Must become like little children.”
If we believe this to be true, why then do we fill our lives with such complications?
It is said that the Truth lies beyond words
And their meanings
If we believe this to be true, why then
Do we so purposefully pursue insights and seek guidance and words of advice?
It is said by the mystics that to know the
Truth one should look inside and nowhere else.
If we believe this to be true, why then do we grasp with such
Enthusiasm endeavors and relationships?
It is said that understanding does not lead to
The Truth
If we believe this to be true, why then do we
Continually form questions and seek
Direction from shaykhs living and dead?
